Passo del Tonale

On the border between Trento and Brescia is the famous Passo del Tonale resort, a natural amphitheater located at about 1884 meters that has become, over the years, a sought-after winter and summer tourist destination for all mountain enthusiasts.
Its location, in fact, right at the foot of the Presena glacier, allows you to practice winter sports for most of the year, skiing on the Presena glacier both in winter but also in summer until the end of June. (see at the bottom of the text)

The whole area is full of modern and efficient structures that frame about 100 kilometers of ski slopes, with increasing levels of difficulty and therefore suitable for both beginners and experts. But Passo del Tonale, a pass in the southern Rhaetian Alps, can also count on a truly spectacular natural scenery that includes the Vallecamonica, the Ortles-Cevedale alpine group and the Adamello-Presanella group. Its ski area, then, for some years has been connected, thanks to a gondola lift, to that of Ponte di Legno and Temù with particularly demanding slopes which, due to their characteristics, are suitable for very expert skiers.

Those who decide to spend a holiday in these places are certainly fond of winter sports and outdoor activities to be practiced even in summer, such as trekking or mountain biking; yet it should not be forgotten that there are also other attractions to be known.
One of these is represented by the Military Memorial built in memory of the violent battles fought during the First World War in these areas. The monument houses the remains of 847 Italian soldiers who fell in clashes with the Austrian army between 1915 and 1918 and was erected in 1936 by the architect Pietro del Fabbro. The structure, despite its architectural simplicity, is undoubtedly worth seeing during a holiday. In addition, to fully immerse yourself in the fun and increase your adrenaline, there is the Snow Park which, near the Valena slope at about 2000 meters, allows you to devote yourself to evolutions on skis and snowboards.

Of course, the accommodation offer is also particularly rich in offers of various types, capable of satisfying the most diverse needs.
Completely furnished residences or apartments are available to anyone, despite being on vacation, who does not want to give up their habits and independence. There are also hotels of different categories, many of which have refined restaurants where you can savor local cuisine or spa or wellness to combine relaxation and body care with a stay dedicated to sport.
Passo del Tonale is part of the large ski area called Adamello Sky which also includes the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, all rich in trails that cover more than 1000 kilometers. These are routes of different types, marked so as to perfectly orient tourists and suitable for families or expert hikers. In some cases it is also possible to travel them by mountain bike or with horses, entering the typical nature of these places, among conifers and broad-leaved trees where it is not uncommon to come across roe deer, deer, chamois, squirrels and other animals that populate the woods.

SUMMER SKIING:
Passo del Tonale is dominated by the Presena glacier, known for being one of the few where skiing is also practiced in summer (until about the end of June).
In the Presanella Group, where the glacier is located, you can ski until the end of June, and the slopes can be reached starting from Passo Tonale thanks to the lifts, which go up to Passo Paradiso and then go up again to Cima Presena (at 3,069 m above sea level). At the top you can find about 10 km of ski slopes.

Not far away, moreover, there is also the Adamello glacier, the largest in Italy, which due to its particular radial shape represents a natural spectacle not to be missed. In short, both the pass and the surrounding areas offer ideas for enchanting holidays not only in winter, but also in summer.

Passo del Tonale can be reached by car along the A22 (Brennero motorway), the SS 43 and then the SS42 which crosses the entire Valle del Sole; alternatively you can take the A4 Milan-Venice up to Seriate, then continuing up to Passo del Tonale.
